Depending upon your level of skill and needs this fall, you may choose to start at semester 1 or semester 2 of each course. Middle School Courses ideal for: Grades 6 - 8 | Ages 11 - 13
Chinese 1
Prerequisites: No experience necessary
Course Length: Each semester course is 90 lessons. Each lesson is about 30-45 minutes.
Notes: Course also suitable for children of other ages, depending upon background and experience
Course Description: This multimedia, game-based course for early- to mid-teen beginners in Chinese turns adventures and activities into rigorous lessons in grammar and vocabulary, with instruction equivalent to that found in the first semester of high school Chinese I. They learn the elegant simplicity of Chinese grammar and the subtleties of Chinese pronunciation through entertaining lessons that give a base of conversational ability and listening comprehension. Children build a foundation for reading and writing in the Chinese language through an adaptive technology that lets them choose an approach that works best for them. Engaging graphics, videos, and games keep them interested, and make learning a new language exciting.

Prerequisites: Middle School Chinese 1, or equivalent
Course Length: Each semester course is 90 lessons. Each lesson is about 30-45 minutes.
Course Description: The solid basis acquired in Middle School Chinese 1 is expanded in this course with instruction equivalent to that found in the second semester of high school Chinese I. They learn the elegant simplicity of Chinese grammar and the subtleties of Chinese pronunciation through entertaining lessons that give a base of conversational ability and listening comprehension. Children build a foundation for reading and writing in the Chinese language through an adaptive technology that lets them choose an approach that works best for them. High School Courses ideal for: Grades 9 - 12 | Ages 14 - 18
Chinese I

Course Length: Each semester course is 90 lessons. Each lesson is about 45-60 minutes.
Notes: Students who have already completed Middle School Chinese 2 should enroll in Chinese II rather than in Chinese I.

They learn the elegant simplicity of Chinese grammar and the subtleties of Chinese pronunciation through entertaining lessons that give a base of conversational ability and listening comprehension. Students build a foundation for reading and writing in the Chinese language through an adaptive technology that lets them choose an approach that works best for them. Engaging graphics, video, and games keep students interested, making learning languages exciting. An integrated, game-based reward system keeps learners motivated and eager to progress.
Chinese II
Prerequisites: Chinese I, or equivalent
Course Length: Each semester course is 90 lessons. Each lesson is about 45-60 minutes.
Course Description: Students continue with engaging stories, games, videos, and multimedia experiences in this second level of Chinese. Students further their understanding of Chinese grammar and pronunciation through lessons refining previous practice of conversational ability and listening comprehension. Innovative cultural videos and lessons build awareness of the rich legacy of Chinese culture. Students expand their foundation for reading and writing in Chinese through adaptive technology, providing opportunities to generate fun narratives, a range of well-formed sentences reflecting a solid grasp of grammar structures, and a wide vocabulary.
