We understand the challenge learners face with
a diminishing supply of language teachers and increasing class
sizes. We believe we have the solution. Our powerspeaK¹² courses
have proven that we know how to make individualized learning
work. We offer learners, teachers and schools the ability to
meet their foreign language needs in a new, affordable and
effective way. With methodology based on decades of research
from world-leading teachers, as well as accreditation from
the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS), we
stand alone as the leader in for-credit foreign language instruction.
Accreditation = Assurance
Being an accredited foreign language school
through the NAAS makes powerspeaK¹² unique. Accreditation gives
the assurance of quality and ease of credit transfer among
educational institutions. The ability to provide learning support
with board-certified foreign language teachers, as well as
to grant credit through our school, has greatly enhanced the
powerspeaK¹² offering to all types of learners.

Standards
by Design
powerspeaK¹² courses are designed to meet
the National Standards outlined by the American Council on
the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). ACTFL is the only
national organization dedicated to the improvement and expansion
of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels
of instruction throughout the U.S. ACTFL and its affiliated
organizations represent the educators who are committed to
building language proficiency from kindergarten students through
adult learners. They provide advocacy, professional development
opportunities, resources and opportunities for members to interact
and share ideas and experiences.

- Employ Proven Methodologies: Successful language programs utilize methods and approaches rooted in research and backed by results. They don’t rely on single approach, but rather, employ the “best” of innovative, yet proven techniques.
- Engage Students: Effective language programs motivate kids by employing a variety of interactive activities, games, and culturally relevant exercises to make learning interesting.
- Employ Age-appropriate Content: Effective language programs are designed for kids from the outset, and are not repackaged versions of adult language programs or software.
- Support multiple learning modalities: Successful language programs reach students with varied learning styles through activities emphasizing reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and through use of multiple media including rich graphics, audio, video, and music.
- Align with Standards: Practical language programs are clearly aligned to the recognized standards (e.g., ACTFL - American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language) to ensure students’ success.
- Support Flexible Teaching Option: Versatile language programs are flexible to accommodate both teacher-supported delivery, as well as independent study options. Availability of certified language teachers is helpful to fill gaps, as needed.
- Utilize Robust Learning Environment: Flexible language programs rely on a robust learning management system that provide tools such as a calendar, integrated grade-book, and user-friendly tools to assist teachers in providing feedback and monitoring student progress.
- Provide Comprehensive K-12 Solutions: Complete language programs allow students to start early and have a consistent and evolving learning path as they advance in language learning capacity from K through 12. Programs should allow for growth as your needs evolve.
- Lead to Proficiency: Effective language programs emphasize all four components of language acquisition – listening, speaking, reading, and writing – to progress students towards proficiency.
- Promote Cultural Awareness: Successful language programs incorporate cultural activities to expose students to a wide range and depth of culture surrounding the target language.
