| Middle School Latin 2 for Summer |
Course ideal for: Grades 6 - 8 | Ages 11 - 13
Students can learn a new language during summer break and receive course credit!
We suggest middle school students begin with Middle School Latin 1, unless they have already taken a first-year middle school course at school or at home, in which case they should begin with Middle School Latin 2. If a student has already taken a Middle School Latin 2 course, we suggest they begin with High School Latin II.
Courses must be completed by September 30, 2010.

| 2. Add School Credit |
| Under this option, you will receive a printed and signed proof of credit at the completion of the course. After
completing all the assignments in the course, the student submits them for grading. A certified language teacher then grades the writing and speaking
assignments, provides overall feedback, and calculates a final grade that combines the writing and speaking grades with the computer graded assessments.

Course Overview
Students with a beginning foundation in Latin will see their skills soar through compelling lessons that give them access to content so interesting that they forget that they are learning Latin. Games, modern content, multi-media exercises and engaging stories together make this Latin experience vibrant and alive. Although students receive a strong foundation in skills to decode the classics, the course also emphasizes the ability to speak and understand in Latin. Students will be able to read and understand excerpts of authentic classical works by the end of the course.
What You Will Learn
- Phrases
- Familiar Latin phrases as well as greetings, introductions, relationships, cause and effect, how to express likes and dislikes and how to ask questions. Esperanto is also introduced as a method
for learning Latin.
- Vocabulary
- Animals, body parts, family words, shapes, geography, colors, food, health and safety, numbers and household vocabulary.
- Grammar
- Noun forms (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative and vocative); genders; declensions; prepositions; word order; regular and irregular verbs; present tense verbs (indicative vs.
exhortative modes); future tense verbs (indicative and imperfective); past tense verbs (imperfective aspect); plural noun phrases; modal verbs; past time reference; passive vs. active mode; i-stem
verbs; fourth conjugation verbs; and imperatives.
- Culture
- Students will gain an understanding of the history of the Latin language and cultural aspects of the Roman Empire, such as history, life, politics and the arts.
